For the last two years the Area has added a levy to the membership to build up funds so that we can start to develop our Jubilee Campsite at Peterson Super Ely.
The development work has been split to two projects, a long term development plan and short term improvement projects.
Long Term Development
At the start of this year we went out to tender for an Architect to help us develop a long term version for the site (PDF).
We received a good response to the tender but due to Covid the final presentation and interviews needed to be delayed. These have now been concluded and we have a preferred vendor which we hope to sign a contract with before the end of year.
The first part of this engagement will be to do a consultation of our members, volunteers and the wider scout membership in the UK and the local community.
Short Term Development
As all long term plans, they take time and money. In the short term we would like to make small improvements to site to make it easier for our members and volunteers to use.
In November we cleaned and laid a new car park at the site, so cars and vans should no longer get stuck in the mud! We also laid electrical cables, lighting and added the ability for users to be able to charge devices on site that is now connected to the grid by Western power.
We have also started to produce more materials to support Scout troops, Explorer units and School users of the site by providing details of 6 hiking trails that lead to or from the campsite.
We have also received funding from comic relief to install hand sanitiser and signage etc to make the site Covid compliant. In the new year the site we be open for groups to use for day or evening activities.
We are now looking for Scout Troops or Explorer units to complete some other small projects for us:
- Sanded down and repaint the 4 bar white fence at the top of the site against the road.
- Cut back and clear the public footpath that run thought the site
If you are interested in using the site for activities or working on one of the short term project please contact the Area Office office@cardiffandvalescouts.org.uk 0333 301 1907
