After 18 months Miskin Mill will be re-opening for campers and residential visitors from the 1st September 2021.
The reason for closer has mainly been the pandemic though also we have had contractors on site for major work to be done (as grants allowed).
What has changed?
Well with regard to the site the service team had put in a new roadway to the footbridge and replaced the southern fence to the wood. Contractors have rewired all the electrics in the Mill, Toilet block and Cottage and upgraded those in the lodge. We have a new tiled floor to the main room in the Mill and flood barriers (in place over winter) to the lower doors of the Mill after Storm Dennis. We have had the chimneys in the Mill and Cottage rebuilt due to leeks and the fact they were likely to fall down soon (the trouble with buildings over 300 years old).
We regretfully still have not got rid a off Dwr Cymru, who have been mending their sewers running under the site but hopefully most of the work has been done and we will try and ensure that no work is done by them when we have people staying on site.
Please Note – when booking please use our latest booking form
You will note a Health & Safety visitor’s statement, and a Visitor’s Risk Assessment has been added. This is actually a list of site risks as we see them. We of cause can’t do your risk assessment for you as we know neither the capabilities of the younger people in your charge and your leaders. But hopefully it will help you to complete step 1 of the 5 steps to do a risk assessment. Please note we do require a copy of your risk assessment prior to your arrival. This regretfully is required of all hirers by our insurance company.
Please also note per ScoutsCymru/Welsh Government rules residential groups (for the time being) must not exceed 30 and only 6 young people per room/tent and only 1 adult unless from the same bubble.
