To whom this may concern,
My name is Kai Lyn Yap and I am the Volunteering Coordinator of Cardiff University Paediatrics Society this year.
I am writing to ask whether your organisation would be interested in joining or continuing with the UCL/KCL Asthma Aware Education Program.
Asthma Aware was started in 2015 and has been a huge success for many children in and around Cardiff. Our teaching sessions usually last around 30 minutes during which our trained volunteers will teach the children about asthma and how to recognise and help someone who is suffering from a potentially life-threatening asthma attack. It is highly interactive, and we have different talks tailored for both KS1 (5-7 year old) and KS2 (7–11 year old) students. This year, we would like to extend our project to teach as many students in South Wales as possible and we would love your organisation to take part!
We are aware that, given the Coronavirus pandemic, this is an extremely challenging time for schools, and we would like to work with you to deliver the education session in a format that will match new regulations. We also know that it is difficult to predict how education will be delivered over the next year.
As a charity we are keen to continue to educate children about asthma, and also provide our medical students with teaching opportunities. If you could offer any suggestions on how you think this would be best received this would be extremely helpful.
If a free session interests you, then please contact us and if applicable, any dates and timings you have in mind for our volunteers to come and teach. If you have any queries and/or would like more information about the scheme, please email me here or I would be happy to give you a call.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Best wishes,
Kai Lyn Yap
