You may already be aware of some of the connections between Scouting and Freemasonry but you may not be aware of how close those ties really are. The Kindred Lodges Association exists to maintain a direct link between The Scout Association and the United Grand Lodge of England.
There are Kindred Lodges in many parts of England but currently there is no Scout themed Masonic Craft Lodge in Wales. Plans are in place to change that and therefore, I’m pleased to announce that we have confirmed our plans for Tony Harvey, a Scout HQ training advisor and established Masonic Speaker to present his lecture “Scouting and Freemasonry : Two Parallel Organisations?” under the banner of Llangattock with Howardian Lodge no 2547 at Cardiff Masonic Hall on the evening of Monday 24th February 2025.
The intention is that Llangattock with Howardian Lodge will become known as “The Scouting Lodge for South Wales” from the start of their new Masonic year in March and that this event will raise awareness of the connections. It is to be open to existing Freemasons as well as to Scouters who may be interested in finding out more about the connections and/or be interested in becoming Freemasons in the future.
After the presentation, there will be a formal dinner in the dining hall at the Masonic Hall. There will also be an opportunity to meet with many of the people involved in this project to further some informal discussions as to how both organisations can benefit, going forwards.
Detailed timings, costs and menu options will be circulated closer to the time – it is likely to be in the region of £30 per ticket.
