I am writing as a representative from the ‘Student’s for Organ Donation’ society, based at Cardiff University.
As a society, formed by enthusiastic medical student volunteers, we want to raise awareness about the option of organ donation in a child-friendly and interactive way through an educational programme offered to local schools as well as extra- curricular groups such as Girl Guides, Scouts and Brownies.
Although Wales adopted the opt-out system in 2015, families are still very involved with organ donation discussion. We hope this session shows the children the importance of having a conversation about their wishes with their family and opens up a dialogue for family members to impart their wishes to the children also.
We would love to offer this teaching to the children at Cardiff and Vale Scouts as we believe having as much access to this interesting topic is really important, as well as being a fun learning opportunity!
If this teaching opportunity is of interest to your Scout groups, please don’t hesitate to get in touch so that we can make further arrangements and give more information as requested.
Kind Regards,
