The Scouts of the World Award (SOWA) is a Scout Network award that gives participants, aged 18-25, the chance to undertake a project of their choice within the themes of Peace, Environment and Sustainability.
This award is a great chance to improve many skills, including independence, planning, teamwork, communication and time management, all while gaining an understanding of global issues. Throughout this project, you can help change communities forever, as well as undertaking developing personally.
To complete the award, you’ll need to:
- Attend a Scouts of the World Discovery run by a SOWA trainer. This will give you some possible project ideas, think about sustainable development and whether your project will last once you’ve left.
- Create a plan for your project based on one or more of three themes (Peace, Environment and Sustainable development)
- Complete the SOWA voluntary project, lasting at least 80 hours.
- Complete a presentation, evaluation and personal reflection.
It isn’t easy, but it’s definitely worth it!
